FAQzszzzss
'Sup.
This is my translations journal, although it is filled to the brim with Arashi translations, I assure you that I will and can do non-JE stuff. I promise.

In the meantime, check out this FAQ that I made for new people and for people who want to procrastinate on their LJs. LOLZORS this is long-winded because I am le bored.

Friending Policy: there really is none. You don't even need to comment because sometimes I check my userinfo to update it and if i see new people I'll add them. My policy is basically that if you add me I'll add you. I guess the perks of being on my friends is that you'll know when I do any translation as opposed to knowing only through communities and such. Plus, people on my friends list get priority in translation requests =P. But all in all, you should probably friend me because I am a lonely, lonely person who sits in my dank room and talks to my 920392093 cats. P.S. If you want you can totally add my real journal ([info]noesunexito because of aforementioned

Parentheses: If you’ve read a lot of my newer translations you’ll notice that there are a bunch of words or phrases in parenthesis within the songs. You’re probably thinking, “WTF is up with that?!” The answer, my dear friend, is that those words within the parentheses are places where I’ve added in words to either clarify the meaning of the sentence or to improve the overall aesthetic flow of the song. I mainly started this journal with the aim to create non-engrish sounding translations that flow more like how they do in Japanese because I have seen quite a fare share of cut-and-dry translations. There are tons of words in the Japanese language that really can’t be summed up in one English word or have meanings that have slightly different connotations than what it says in the dictionary. When I feel like I’ve changed the word quite significantly from what the dictionaries say, I’ll place a little numbered footnote for people who know Japanese and are thinking, “I know what that word means and it sure doesn’t mean this!” Speaking of footnotes:

Footnotes: As you may have also noticed, I have a bajillion footnotes. I try to keep them down but as I said above, when I’ve changed the meaning of something significantly, when there’s some sort of cultural/historical tidbit that enhances the meaning of the song or when there’s just some more explaining to do I make a footnote. Although you can (and I make sure that) you can read the entire translation without ever needing to glance at the footnotes to understand it, the footnotes hopefully help add to your overall impression of the song. Basically, I <3 footnotes, they make me happy to be alive.

Redistribution policy: I try to include MP3s for all the songs I don’t think everyone has, and the songs I think everyone has are all the Arashi and JE songs. But sometimes I’ll be too damn-ass lazy to upload a song onto slow Megaupload (unless there’s a better semi-permanent file upload program out there?) The point is, if I upload a song onto Megaupload go and gank, hotlink, and download repeatedly! It’s not my webspace. As for my lyrics, it’s the internet and I can’t track you down and like, beat you with a sack of doorknobs if you gank and paste it to 893 of your friends, but I will love you a lot if you link back to this journal. If you want to use my lyrics for a layout or something picture-like show me please! I love graphixx.

WRONG: I AM NEVER WRONG. I ACTUALLY AM A PROFESSOR OF LINGUISTICS AT TOKYO UNIVERSITY. LOL J/K. What I mean is I try not to be wrong because when I’m really confused over something I usually put a footnote next to my crappy attempt and hope that someone with more skillz will come along and tell me how it is. I try to do all my translations entirely on my own, but when I just can’t figure something out or when my thesaurus fails me I may or may not ask some of my friends and you’ll always see me giving shoutouts when they do. No, I do not ask my Japanese teacher for help because (1) it’d be a ??? for them and (2)she’s not so good in the English department. LOL I still love you ????. So if my translations are wack, just comment and be like, “ummm, no you’re actually dumb.” If you don’t get why I translated something a certain way just post a comment with “explain plz kthnx” and I’ll be much obliged to. You don’t even need to make it anonymous! (it’s ok, I won’t go to your userinfo and seckretly find your email address and send you Chinese viruses named “The Red Victory” or something.

About me: I’ve had a year and a half now of formal accelerated Japanese training and I am majoring in East Asian Studies. I have been a fantard of things from Japan since the dawn of the internet and I may seem jaded about stuff because of this. But I assure you I am just as crazed and retarded when it comes to certain things as the next fan and I promise I’m quite nice to everyone (I will even be nice to you if you hate on my fandoms) unless you talk shit on my friends or if you’re just basically a general douchebag. I love bunnies.

I love affiliates! What affiliation actually entails I don’t really know, but it’s always great to pimp other people’s translation journals out, and every affiliate has my approval stamp in a general sense. If you do translations please contact me! I’ve worked with [info]__ohsofeel before on her ohsogood Orange Range translation so if you want to collab just drop me a line/comment! I also love intellectual linguistics related banter<3

‘Sup non-LJ kids. I also recommend commenting at the communities rather than commenting here if you don't have an account.

Again?!: At first I tried to make it a policy to not re-translate things that have already been done, but I have since changed that policy because of a certain Arashi song that has been mistranslated several times. If I retranslate something knowingly (i.e. I know someone has already done it before) I wont post it to the communities unless it’s in a package with other, new translations because I’m not that much of a bastard. But, I can do what I want in my own journal so don’t take it personally. Just remember that popular works like the Tale of Genji or the Tale of the Heike have been translated several times and some translators come outright and say “so and so’s translation was not particularly effective in conveying the language of this work for the following reasons…” so don't trip balls ok? It’s just the internet.

On that note, I quote Ellen in that ‘the internet is serious business.’ So just grab some chips, engage in some lulz, and enjoy.

How is my driving layout and whatnot? Tell me if you want translations in a certain way.

some time ago i looked up in the internet and found some arashi song's translations but i didn't have any account in any drama. so i never saved the website... lately i sugn up in arashian and some ppl were asking for the translations that i found.. i did make sure that i said that i found them in the internet... i guess that wasn't enough. i didn't mean to 'steal' your work or anything. i want to say sorry cuz i just recieved an e-mail with someone that says where those translations come from. i am very very very sorry.

now that i know where the translations come from i'm going to edit the entries and give you the credit you deserve.

again i am very very sorry for all of this. if you want me to erase the entries i'll do it.

That's perfectly okay. I understand that it's hard sometimes to keep track of where you get things from. Translation is like writing a piece of fiction or drawing a picture so that's why many translators get upset when their work is reposted without notice. I'm sure now you know how to go about reposting things next time, so you don't need to apologize that much, okay?

I was the one who sent you an email after i heard from japanda_lations that some of her translations have been reposted without notice and I just got your reply through email. Actually, japanda_lations banned you from her translations journal, but my journal is not locked and I'm not going to ban you because I know you regret what you did and I'm pretty quick to forgive.

By the way, you should join [info]honyakukonnyaku, I do all my new translations over there and I moved most of the old stuff in here over there. I put up all of Arashi's ONE and I have Wish and Pikanchi Double and a bunch of others.
